ATX East – NY “Excited and nervous”
by Chris Round on May.18, 2009, under News
With the ATX East Automation show just four weeks away, many of us exhibitors and everyone else associated with manufacturing are very interested to see how well that show will be attended. As this year has gone on, some exhibitors have dropped out, however my short list of marketing buddies are all still in and moderately optimistic.
I asked Albert Sabbah, Group Sales Manager for Canon Communications, for his thoughts. “Excited and nervous” were his two quick words of choice. “Since the show is wide spread through many industries from medical to automation to green, really many of the companies are having good years.” Albert was quick to show the numbers as well and they are up and down, depending on the show. I quickly summarized and noticed medical (MD&M), packaging (EastPack), and automation (ATX) are good; plastics industry, questionable.
The bundling effect of shows is working to Canon’s and our advantage. Let’s hope we can say the same come June 12th. Our jobs as marketers, bloggers, buyers, investors, etc. is to help proactively create a victory. Come on everyone, go to this show and buy something. Enough with the nervousness; we want to be excited.

We’ll be exhibiting at Eastpack in a couple of weeks and we’re confident the quality of leads will be good, despite less traffic than usual. We recently dropped-out of a packaging show in Toronto, but I’ve spent three days walking the show and talking to fellow exhibitors and they were delighted by the quality of the attendees, for the most part. The economy will be back on track in the next 18 to 24 months and some manufacturers want to be ready.

Thanks JF and we will be there too. Isn’t it a shame we talk like 18 to 24 months likes its no time at all… Speaking of packaging, have you considered the PMMI as a support for your company? The organization has served us well.

Chris, we have been member of PMMI for three years now and it is a great association. I’m part of a committee called Young Executive Network and we do a big push to bring more young packaging people to the shows through social media. My next step is to set up a blog like yours!

Light floor traffic at the ATX and all shows. The floor buzz claimed weather was partly to blame. All the usual suspects exhibiting.

Day two was great traffic flow all day long. Good projects discussed on the floor. Got to love day two at a show!
